Welcome to the Master of Social Sciences in Nonprofit Management, Hong Kong’s first master’s degree dedicated to nonprofit management. As social purpose organisations respond to increasingly complex community needs, technological change, evolving philanthropic practices, and growing expectations for accountability and impact, effective leadership has never been more important. Our programme is designed to equip current and aspiring leaders with the knowledge, judgement, and management capabilities needed to guide organisations through this changing environment and generate meaningful, sustainable social impact.

The curriculum brings together cross-disciplinary, research-led teaching, experiential learning, and practice-based engagement across the nonprofit, philanthropic, and social service sectors. Students learn from our distinguished professoriate as well as seasoned practitioners and leaders from philanthropy, social service organisations, social businesses, family foundations, private philanthropic organisations, and international NGOs, gaining direct exposure to diverse perspectives and real-world leadership challenges. Through case-based discussions, practitioner-led sessions, and opportunities to connect theory with organisational practice, students engage with foundational and emerging areas including strategic management, governance, organisational leadership, fundraising and development, impact investing and measurement, ESG, organisational assessment, and AI and philanthropy. Selected courses are also grounded in the Hong Kong social service context and respond to the professional development needs of experienced practitioners and managers.

Designed in an executive mode for working professionals, the programme combines intensive teaching with online tutorials to support learning alongside professional commitments. Equally important, students become part of an extensive alumni and practitioner network comprising local and global leaders from social service organisations, social businesses, family foundations, and private philanthropic organisations. This community creates valuable opportunities to exchange perspectives, learn across sectors, and build lasting professional connections.
