Enrolling in the Master in Social Sciences in Nonprofit Management (MNPM) programme at the University of Hong Kong has been a truly transformative experience. Over the two year period, I have gained invaluable insights and developed a profound understanding of different aspects of the nonprofit sector. The programme has provided me with the knowledge and practical skills to implement more strategic and sustainable practices within my organisation, enabling me to create a greater impact.
One of the most memorable experiences was our field trip to the Crossroads Foundation as part of the course, where we participated in a simulated poverty experience. The experiential learning session was humbling and deeply thought-provoking, bringing back memories of my work in the urban slums of New Delhi. It reinforced the importance of participatory approaches in nonprofit work—ensuring that marginalised communities have a voice in the decisions that impact their lives. The capstone project was the highlight of my learning journey, allowing me to apply theory to real-world challenges.
Beyond academics, the relationships I built with my peers have been invaluable. Collaborating with like-minded professionals has sparked innovative ideas and fostered a strong support network. Reflecting on my journey, I am grateful for the knowledge, experiences, and confidence I have gained. “Commit to expand, care to understand, converse to grow”—this philosophy has shaped my path. This course has shaped me into a more visionary leader, and I am committed to applying my learning to create meaningful change in the nonprofit sector.
